NJ AG Probes Thanksgiving Day Fatality Involving Waterford Police in Atco

The New Jersey Attorney General's Office has launched an investigation into a tragic incident that occurred early on Thanksgiving Day in Atco. Ad NJ AG officials said in the incident, an on-duty officer from the Waterford Police Department, while operating a department vehicle, fatally struck an adult male on White Horse Pike (Route 30) in Atco.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:19 a.m.

Under a 2019 law, P.L. 2019, c. 1, the Attorney General's Office is mandated to investigate any deaths that occur during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in their official capacity or while the individual is in custody.

This law also stipulates that the findings of such investigations be presented to a grand jury to determine whether the evidence warrants an indictment of the involved officers.

As of now, the identities of the officer and the deceased have not been disclosed to the public.AdThe investigation into this incident is actively ongoing, and authorities have not released any additional information.
