NJ AG Investigates Fatal Police-Involved Shooting in Ventnor

The Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred in Atlantic County on Thursday.

According to a statement released by the Attorney General's Office, the incident happened shortly after 4:15 p.m. in the area of Wellington and West End avenues in Ventnor.

Police said one male civilian sustained fatal injuries after at least one officer fired their weapon and struck him.

Officials said authorities are seeking to identify the man, who was pronounced deceased at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.

The Integrity Bureau is investigating within the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability.

This investigation is being conducted pursuant to a law enacted in January 2019, which requires that the Attorney General’s Office conduct investigations of a person’s death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
