Authorities in Atlantic County announced that on Thursday, September 25, the Honorable Jeffrey Waldman, J.S.C., detained Ernest W. Heinz, 46, of Port Republic, on counts including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses related to an incident that occurred on September 11 in Galloway Township.

Atlantic County officials stated that on the afternoon of September 11, the Galloway Township Police Department responded to Jimmie Leeds Road near Stockton University for a reported shooting that caused the school to initiate a lockdown.

The 42-year-old victim and bystanders reported that an unknown male had pulled his vehicle alongside the victim’s vehicle and shot her in the face before fleeing the scene, ACPO officials say.

Police subsequently obtained surveillance video showing Heinz with a handgun in his hand minutes after the shooting, ACPO authorities said.

Atlantic County officials said Heinz, who was represented at the hearing by Robin Lord, Esq., of Trenton, NJ, will remain lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, and is scheduled to appear before the Honorable Joseph Levin, J.S.C., on October 31, 2025.
