An early morning fire in Newark left nine families displaced and sent two residents to the hospital, according to information released by Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.

Firefighters were dispatched to 7 Horatio Court at approximately 6:36 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a fire inside the residential building.
Upon arrival, crews located flames burning on the first floor of the structure.
During rescue operations, firefighters located an adult victim inside a bathroom and safely removed the individual from the building.
Two adults were transported to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center for treatment of injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening.
Thanks to the swift response of Newark firefighters, the blaze was brought under control within about 15 minutes, with officials declaring it contained at approximately 6:51 a.m.
While no fatalities were reported, the impact on residents is significant. Nine families have been temporarily relocated as a result of the fire.

The cause and origin remain under active investigation by the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit.
