Irvington Township

On a chilly December evening, the steps of Irvington City Hall became something far more than a government building—they became a place where hope glowed brighter than the winter sky.

On December 4th, families, children, and neighbors poured into Civic Square for the annual Christmas Light Spectacular, an event that transformed Irvington into a world of warmth, wonder, and pure holiday magic.

Under the leadership of Mayor Tony Vaussand the Irvington Municipal Council, the community experienced an unforgettable night filled with joy, unity, and the unmistakable feeling of belonging.

As the crowd gathered for the countdown, there was a hush—an electric stillness—before thousands of lights burst to life across Civic Square. Gasps of awe, bursts of laughter, and the excited shouts of children rippled through the crowd.

For a moment, every worry, every burden, every hardship melted away in the glow of Irvington’s sparkling lights.

This night is about lifting spirits,” Mayor Vauss said softly, moments before the switch was flipped. “It’s about reminding our children—and each other—that joy belongs to all of us.”

A Celebration Carried by Community

Standing beside Mayor Vauss were leaders who share his passion for Irvington’s families:
Council President Jamillah Beasley,
Councilwoman Darlene Brown,
Council Member Anthony Vauss Jr.,
Councilwoman Dr. October Hudley,
and Superintendent of Schools Dr. April Vauss, who proudly supported students participating in the celebration.

Their presence underscored what the evening was truly about—community, heart, and collective care.

The music was nothing short of moving. Choirs from

Irvington High School,

Berkeley Terrace Elementary School, and

Florence Avenue Elementary School

filled the night air with harmonies that seemed to wrap around the crowd like a warm embrace. Their voices—young, hopeful, and full of pride—reminded everyone of what this season represents: togetherness, generosity, and the promise of brighter days.

Moments of Joy That Will Be Remembered for Years

This year, Mayor Vauss introduced new attractions that brought unfiltered joy to our youngest residents:

✨ A glittering ice-skating rink
✨ A holiday train ride weaving through the square
✨ A live petting zoo where children—many for the first time—touched and played with gentle animals

These experiences were more than activities; they were memories being created for children who often face challenges far beyond their years. Mayor Vauss wanted them to feel—deeply and genuinely—that they matter.

His generosity continued throughout the evening with the distribution of hundreds of free gifts for children and $25 gift cards for grateful parents. Meanwhile, costumed elves, dancers, and Santa’s helpers filled Civic Square with laughter and excitement.

The Irvington Fire Department’s brilliantly decorated fire truck carried Santa and Mrs. Claus, delighting families as they waved from above.

A Night That Showed What Irvington Is Made Of

The Christmas Light Spectacular was not only a celebration—it was a testament to the love and commitment that Mayor Vauss and the Irvington Municipal Council pour into this community every single day. Events like this do far more than entertain; they uplift. They empower. They remind children growing up in challenging environments that they are seen, cared for, and capable of greatness.

As Mayor Vauss shared, “This event is about bringing joy to our children and showing them that we care deeply about their happiness and success.”

The Mayor also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated township employees, including the Police and Fire Departments and Public Works crews, who worked tirelessly to make this night a reality.
