Newark

A 40-year-old Newark man was arrested Thursday by Essex County sheriff’s detectives after they executed a search warrant at his apartment.

As part of on-going drug investigations in the city’s North Ward, Sheriff Armando Fontoura said that detectives executed a search warrant for apartment “F” at 259 Broadway late yesterday morning.

The target of our investigation, **Mr. Shannon ‘Shake’ Wheeler, 40,** was detained in his apartment as officers performed the search,” Sheriff Fontoura said.

Officers recovered and seized 710 heroin-filled glassine envelopes, stamped ‘BUTTER’ in red ink, 49 vials of ‘crack’ cocaine and a bag containing $3,500 in cash.

Police charged Wheeler with two counts each of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Rafael Hernandez School and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of Janice Cromer Village public housing complex.

Police transported Wheeler to the county jail where he awaits a bail hearing on charges.

All of the charges lodged against Mr. Wheeler are mere allegations.
