Newark West Ward Fire Injures Two Firefighters, Two Civilians

Fire officials in Newark reports that members of the Newark Fire Division extinguished a fire at 39 Sunset Avenue today that resulted in two civilian injuries and two injured firefighters.

Officials say at 12:35 p.m., firefighters responded to the two-story occupied residence.

The fire extended to an adjacent unoccupied residence at 37 Sunset Avenue and was considered under control at 12:55 p.m. according to officials.

Two female adults were injured, and both were transported to area hospitals for treatment and two firefighters sustained shoulder injuries, with one treated at the scene and the other at University Hospital.

Officials say five adults and one child were relocated.

The cause and origin of this incident is under investigation by members of the Arson Unit.
