By: Richard L. Smith Newark residents are starting Thursday with a warm 74 degrees and clear skies as the region braces for the hottest days of the week. According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 91 degrees. Light west winds between 7 and 13 mph will offer only slight relief from the building heat. If you're heading to the bus stop or commuting to work this morning, conditions are calm and pleasant, but that will change quickly. Forecasters are warning of steamy afternoon conditions and reduced air quality, so those with respiratory sensitivities should take precautions. While today offers another chance to enjoy summer-like weather, showers and thunderstorms are on the horizon. NWS forecasters say there's a slight chance of rain beginning late tonight, with increasing chances after 11 p.m. Rain is expected to carry into Friday and could impact Father’s Day weekend. For now, enjoy the sunshine and stay cool, New Jersey.
