Newark and the North Jersey region are getting a much-needed break from the intense heatwave that brought multiple days of 90-degree weather and sweltering conditions.

Good morning, and for those heading out early for a walk or commute, it’s a noticeably cooler start, currently 73 degrees and humid in downtown Newark.

While it’s not exactly umbrella weather just yet, light sprinkles are falling in some areas, and a few more rounds of showers are expected later today.

The rain is significantly lighter than the heavy storms that passed through overnight, which drenched much of the region.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will remain cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m., then showers likely through the late afternoon, and scattered storms again after 5 p.m.

The high is expected to reach a manageable 82 degrees.

Tonight, forecasters said there’s a 30 percent chance of more showers and storms before 11 p.m., followed by patchy fog developing after 2 a.m. The low will settle around 72 degrees.

Although it’s still a bit muggy, today marks the start of more breathable air and a break from the oppressive heat. Stay dry and enjoy the cool-down, Jersey.
