Newark

Newark and much of the North Jersey region are waking up to a cloudy and brisk start this Thursday morning, but temperatures are holding above the freezing mark — a welcome change compared to the bitter stretches felt earlier this winter.

Commuters heading out the door will still want a coat and a warm hat, though the air isn’t as frigid as it has been in recent weeks.

Forecasters say we’ll attempt to climb toward the 40-degree mark this afternoon, which is a noticeable improvement from the deep freezes that have dominated much of the season.

According to the National Weather Service, today will remain cloudy with a high near 41 degrees.

A light northeast wind around 7 mph is expected to keep conditions feeling cool but manageable.

Residents may also want to grab an umbrella. While rain is not expected to be steady throughout the day, occasional showers could develop.

Tonight, clouds will linger with rain becoming likely mainly after 4 a.m. Overnight lows will dip to around 35 degrees with a 70% chance of precipitation, as northeast winds continue near 7 mph.

Overall, it’s a gray but relatively mild day by winter standards.

Enjoy your day, New Jersey.
