Newark Teacher Assistant, Basketball Coach Charged with Sexual Assault

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that on Friday, March 24, Tyrone Pullins, 29, of Newark was arrested and charged with two counts of 2nd degree sexual assault and two counts of 3rd degree endangering the welfare of a child.

The charges are based upon allegations that the defendant sent photographs, of a sexual nature, and engaged in sexual conduct with a 16-year-old student at Westside High School.

The defendant was employed as a teacher’s aide, at West Side High School, at the time these crimes are alleged to have occurred.

The defendant made his first court appearance this morning.

He is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.

Pullins is a basketball assistant coach for Central High School boys and he also coach at least one community basketball league team according to reports.

These are accusations.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
