City officials joined the community this morning in a swearing in ceremony for over 40 new police officers to the force.
The 11 a.m. ceremony that happened under a tent on Springfield Ave. and Jacob Street in the city's Central Ward had the Mayor, Police Director, Police Chief, and several other city and county officials welcome in the new recruits to the city's police lineup.
The recruits trained at the Essex County Police Academy in Cedar Grove for six months and are prepared for active duty according to city officials.
