Authorities in Newark are actively investigating multiple shootings that occurred in different neighborhoods across the city overnight, including two incidents that happened near public parks.
According to preliminary information, the first of -about- three reported shootings took place around 7:50 p.m. in the area of Jeliff Avenue and West Bigelow Street.
Officers responded swiftly after gunfire was reported immediately secured the scene with crime scene tape.
A preliminary investigation found no victims at the location; however, shell casings were recovered, indicating that a shooting had occurred.
Detectives from Newark’s Shooting Response Team arrived shortly thereafter to take over the investigation.
The suspect fled the area and has not yet been identified or apprehended.
The motive behind the gunfire remains under active investigation.
No additional details were released as authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
