Newark Shelters Over One Hundred in Need of Shelter Due to Frigid Temperatures

Newark

"Jennifer Marie Cholotío There's a few families that stay under the Jackson Street Bridge by the river you may have to go on the Harrison side to see exactly where they are but they are there, there's also a few that stay on the 280 round about exit to 21 and under 280 on 21. But I hear there are some children among those under the Jackson street bridge"  Jennifer Marie Cholotío (Resident)

A desperate attempt to round up people who were in need of emergency shelter around the city due to plummeting temperatures outside, proved successful overnight as over one hundred people spent the night in several warm shelters.

City official sent an alert out at around 7:30 p.m. requiring first responders and the community to help locate anyone that may not have had adequate shelter or heat, offering them temporary shelter for the night.

The John F. Kennedy Recreation Center quickly filled up as the center housed and fed over 75 people overnight.

Forecaster predict temperatures to continue to fall throughout the day.

"I'm so glad to see this. I have been praying for all the homeless out there in this weather". Susan Bell (Resident)
