Newark Senior Woman, Passaic Man Among Three Killed in Route 80 Crash in PA

State Police officals have identified two NJ residents as victims of a crash that killed three people on an interstate in Pennsylvania early Monday morning. 

According to a statement released by Pennsylvania State Police, at 12:48 a.m., Troopers from Fern Ridge were dispatched to Interstate 80, mile marker 276 Eastbound, Kidder Township, Carbon County, for a motor vehicle crash. 

Officials said when Troopers arrived, they found two vehicles, a commercial motor vehicle and a passenger van, involved, sustaining significant impact damage from the collision.

Police say the operator of the commercial motor vehicle, a 34-Year-Old Male from New Columbia, PA, along with two van passengers, a 73-year-old Female from Newark, NJ and a 36-year-old Male from Passiac, NJ, suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.  

According to PA State Police, responding Troopers provided medical assistance to numerous passengers prior to EMS arriving.

The operator of the passenger van was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. Police say all surviving passengers were transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley for medical treatment.

The names of the deceased individuals will be released later, pending next of kin notification.

Police say the crash is still under investigation and more details will be released when available.
