City officials cordially invite the public to visit the city’s firehouses during the Department of Public Safety’s upcoming Open Fire House events.
“We’re opening the firehouses to give members of the public the opportunity to meet our city’s firefighters, to see their equipment up close and to learn more about fire safety,” Director Ambrose said. “Fire stations from various locations throughout the city were chosen so everyone has the opportunity to attend one of the open houses.”
Firefighters will offer firehouse tours and outline their duties and responsibilities. Visitors will be given demonstrations on the proper use of carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and will learn how to devise emergency escape plans.
Attendees will also be encouraged to sign up for the Newark Public Safety Academy and to receive new smoke detectors. Those interested will receive inform ation on how to become a Newark firefighter.
