Newark Residents Illegal Dumping Complaints Continue to Pour into Police Headquarters; Arrests Made

Newark

Police and Newark city officials continue to step up operations to punish those who continue dump garbage illegally in the city.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, police arrested Mr. Derrick Manuel, 46, of Lodi, and Marvin Jenkins, 57, of Newark, for an incident of illegal dumping on Tuesday.

In the statement, Director Ambrose said at approximately 3:40 p.m., members of the Illegal Dumping Task Force observed two men pull their Dodge pickup truck to the rear of an abandoned house in the 100 block of South 11th Street and dump black garbage bags and other debris.

Police arrested both men then charged them with illegal dumping and illegal transport of solid waste.

According to Director Ambrose, their truck was subsequently towed and could be forfeited.

The Illegal Dumping Task Force has made 20 arrests thus far this year Director Ambrose said.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
