Newark Resident Sets Mattress on Fire to Avoid Illegal Dumping

Police and fire officials in Newark are investgiating an unusual incident that occurred in Newark's South Ward where a resident intentional set mattress on fire to avoid dumping it illegally.

According to preliminary reports, firefighters rushed to the teens block of Bragaw Avenue after receiving reports of a rubbish fire in the Sout Ward neighborhood.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and found a mattress ignited with embers extending to a garage in the 200 block of Clinton Place at around 11:40 a.m.

Fast moving firefighters were able to extinguish the mattress fire then hose down fir that began to ignite the garage.

The fire caused minor damage to the garage according to fire officials.

Police arrived at the scene and issued the resident a summons for the incident after they learned that the mattress was set blaze because the resident didn't know where to discard it.
