Authorities in Newark request the public’s help in identifying the suspects who assaulted and robbed a victim of $500 and his electric scooter on May 31.

Police responded to a report of a robbery that occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. in front of the Nike Factory Store in the 600 block of Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard, Newark officials stated.
According to Newark officials, the victim reported to officers that he locked his scooter to a city pole, entered the store, and saw two Black males trying to steal his vehicle.

He exited the store to confront the suspects, who assaulted and punched him in the face, Newark Police say.
Newark authorities said they took his fanny pack containing $500, his personal belongings, and fled north on scooters on Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard, then west on Central Avenue and south on Halsey Street.

During the investigation, a man who saw the robbery but was not involved returned the scooter as officers questioned the victim, Newark officials stated.
Newark officials say two males, he reported, had given it to him.

Director Miranda urges anyone with information on the suspects’ identity to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
