Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., stated that at approximately 12:20 a.m., the victim ordered food from Jersey Fried Chicken in the 80 block of Bloomfield Avenue.

The suspects, who were already inside the eatery, followed the victim after he left with his purchase and walked northbound on Summer Avenue, according to Newark officials.

Newark Police said they approached the victim, and one of the males hit him in the head and demanded that he give up his belongings.

When he refused, both suspects checked his pockets, punched him in the face multiple times, and fled eastbound on Fourth Avenue, Newark officials say.

Newark officials stated that the victim was treated at University Hospital for facial injuries and a minor laceration to his head.
