Newark Police Seeks Help Identifying Assault Suspect

Authorities in Newark seek the public’s assistance in identifying the male suspect in connection with an assault that occurred on Monday, May 20. AdNewark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said at approximately 10:45 p.m., police responded to Sanford Avenue and South Orange Avenue on a call of an assault.

A male and female entered the NJ Transit bus at the 900 block of South Orange Avenue, officials stated.

According to officials, the two passengers began quarreling and approached the driver to resolve the issue.

When the driver refused to engage in the discussion, the male sprayed an unknown liquid in the face of the driver before he and the female suspect exited the bus, officials said.

Detectives investigating this incident observed surveillance footage of the male suspect, who is described as either Hispanic or Black, officials say.AdOfficials said he was wearing an orange shirt and black pants and had a tattoo on the right side of his neck. He is also a frequent rider on the No. 31 bus route.
