Newark Police Seeking Public's Help Identifying Robbery Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose seeks the public’s help with identifying a suspect, who is wanted for a strong-arm robbery that occurred January 10.

According to officials, police responded to a call about a robbery that took place around 8:05 p.m. in the 100 block of Monroe Street. The victim told officers that an unknown male grabbed her purse and hit her during a struggle that caused her to fall to the ground.

Police said that the suspect ran southbound on Monroe Street with the purse, which contained cash and the victim’s personal belongings. The suspect, described as 5’8’’with a medium brown complexion and medium build, was wearing a black mask, black pants, black and white sneakers and a dark blue jacket.

The detectives investigating this incident are seeking the public’s help with locating this suspect. Director Ambrose urges anyone with information about him to call the Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).  All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
