Newark Police Seek Suspect for Shooting Incident Near Central Ward Wendy's Restaurant

Newark Police are on the search for a suspect following a shooting near a Wendy's restaurant in the Central Ward late Friday night.AdThe incident, reported just before 11 p.m. at 427 Springfield Avenue, prompted a rapid response from law enforcement to the scene of the shooting.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a victim who recounted a scary experience. He reported that while walking near Wendy's, an armed suspect approached him on Jacob Street, discharged a firearm, and then made a getaway in a vehicle.

Fortunately, the victim, who sought refuge at the Wendy's, was not hit by the gunfire. However, EMS attended to him at the scene for symptoms consistent with shock.AdFurther investigation by the Newark Shooting Response Team identified a crime scene on the 20's block of Jacob Street.

Police are looking for a black male suspect with dreadlocks, last seen wearing all black and fleeing in a vehicle believed to be a Ford Crown Victoria.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear as the investigation continues. Newark authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.
