Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery and assault that occurred on May 9 in the city’s East Ward.

According to investigators, the incident happened at approximately 11 a.m. in the 80 block of Concord Street.
Two victims told police they had stopped to dispose of bulk trash from a box truck at a dumpster when they were approached by a man who claimed ownership of the dumpster and demanded payment.
The victims said they initially handed over $60, but the suspect allegedly demanded an additional $20.
When they refused, the man reportedly displayed a weapon and threatened them.
Police said that as one victim returned to the truck to retrieve more money, the suspect punched the second victim in the face, knocking him to the ground.
The victims ultimately surrendered additional cash before fleeing the scene.
The suspect is described as a Black male standing between 5-foot-9 and 6 feet tall and weighing between 230 and 260 pounds.
He has a beard and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and heavy-duty brown-and-black work boots.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS
