Newark police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man believed to be responsible for a package theft in the city’s North Ward earlier this week.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., the incident occurred on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at approximately 2:45 p.m., in the 100 block of Ellery Street.

A package had just been delivered to a residence when the suspect allegedly arrived on a bicycle and took the item from the front steps.
Investigators say the victim obtained surveillance footage from a neighboring residence, which shows a male suspect riding into the driveway on a bicycle before dismounting, walking up to the home, and removing the delivered package.
The suspect is described as a Black male with a thin build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black bubble jacket, a turquoise hooded sweatshirt, dark blue jeans, and gray-and-white sneakers.
Police say he was riding a bright blue or turquoise bicycle equipped with hanger-style handlebars, with an orange plastic bag hanging from the handlebars.
Director Miranda is urging anyone who may recognize the suspect or have information related to the incident to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS.
