Newark Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Robbery Suspect, Vehicle

Newark Police requests the public’s help identifying a suspect who robbed a woman of her purse at gunpoint on January 18.

According to police, officers responded to a call about a robbery in progress that occurred around 9:35 p.m. in the 200 block of Lafayette Street.  

Police officials said that the suspect, captured on surveillance video, exited a two-door, white Mercedes and started to follow the victim, who was walking on Lafayette Street. 

According to police officials, when he reached the victim, the suspect brandished a silver handgun, pushed her to the ground, and took her purse.

Police said that the suspect, described as a Black male with a thin build, got back into the Mercedes, which fled westbound on Elm Street. He was wearing all black clothing. 

Newark Police urge anyone with information about the suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). 

All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
