Newark Police Search for Vehicle that Struck Officer

Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that police seek the public’s help locating a silver Nissan Altima with tinted windows and Georgia license plates for aggravated assault on a police officer and fleeing the scene of an accident.

According to Director Ambrose at approximately 11:25 p.m., members of the Police Division’s Special Investigations Division responded to Clinton and Chadwick avenues to investigate citizen complaints of suspected narcotics sales occurring in the area.

Director Ambrose said two female officers parked their unmarked police car near the intersection to investigate the drug complaint.

As they exited their patrol car, the Nissan which was also parked accelerated with its front bumper striking the rear bumper of the patrol car.

The impact injured one of the officers when she became momentarily pinned between the police car’s door and frame.

The Nissan was last seen traveling on Chadwick Avenue towards Avon Avenue.

The officer was taken to University Hospital where she is expected to be released after receiving treatment for her injuries.

Director Ambrose is urging anyone with information about the Nissan Altima or its occupants to call the Department’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477) or 1-877-NWK-GUNS (1-877-695-8477).
