By: Richard L. Smith

Police in Newark request the public’s help with locating a Lexus, which was repossessed on June 3, 2023, and stolen a day later on June 4.

According to Newark officials, police responded to the incident, which occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m., from a business lot on Whitney Street in Newark.

Police say the owner of the business, Commercial Service Corporation, repossessed a black 2018 Lexus GS from 22 Central Avenue in West Orange on June 3, 2023.

According to police, the vehicle, bearing New Jersey registration Z80PBU, was then transported to the company’s business lot on Whitney Street.

A day later, on June 4, police said a Black male with braided hair was captured on surveillance video jumping over a wall adjacent to the business and entering the property.

The man was wearing black-colored pants and a black sweatshirt with a hood that had “Anti-Social Club” written on the back of the sweatshirt.   He entered the Lexus, then waited inside until employees arrived at 6:45 a.m.

When they opened the gates, the man sped off in the vehicle.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information on the whereabouts of the vehicle to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).  All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
