Newark Police Search for Robbery Suspect that Assaulted Store Employee

Newark Police request the public’s help identifying a suspect, who was captured on surveillance video assaulting an employee at a discount store when she caught him shoplifting merchandise on February 9.

According to police, at approximately 4:04 p.m., police responded to a call about an assault at the Dollar General, located in the 400 Block of Springfield Avenue. 

Police said that when they arrived, the victim told officers that she saw the suspect putting merchandise in a bag. 

According to police, the employee approached the suspect in an attempt to stop him from stealing, telling him to stop as he walked away from her to leave.

Police officials said that on his way to the front door, the suspect struck the employee in her chest and ran out of the store in an unknown direction. 

According to police, the suspect, a Black male, is described as 5’6” with a medium build. He was wearing an orange reflective vest, a black sweatshirt with a hood, blue jeans, a white mask, and brown boots.

Newark police urge anyone with information about this suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). 

All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
