Newark Police Search for Armed Carjacking Suspect Who Nearly Rammed Patrol Car

Newark authorities are on the lookout for a suspect involved in an armed carjacking in the Central Ward late last night.AdThe incident, which occurred around 11:10 p.m., also involved an attempt to ram a police vehicle.

According to a preliminary investigation, officers were initially dispatched to the area of Cutler and Victoria Avenue following reports of an ongoing armed carjacking.

As law enforcement approached, reports say they spotted an older model Mercedes C280 driving erratically away from the scene, narrowly missing a police car.

The vehicle was last seen heading toward 7th Avenue.

Subsequent efforts to locate the stolen vehicle proved successful when officers found it abandoned near the intersection of Holiday Court and Martin Luther King Boulevard.AdReports say one suspect was detained near the vehicle; however, police are still searching for a second suspect. Described as a black male with a beard and wearing a green jacket, he was last spotted near I-280.

While no serious injuries were reported, EMS was called to assess the carjacking victim.

The incident remains under active investigation and no officers were harmed during the encounter.
