Newark police were dispatched to a shots fired incident in one of the city's neighborhoods, fortunately reporting no injuries.

The shooting happened near the 16th Avenue side of West Side Park, with a ShotSpotter device alerting authorities shortly before 3:40 a.m.

Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered several shell casings near the park.

However, despite a thorough search of the area, no victims were found.

The suspect, believed to be responsible for the gunfire, had fled the scene and currently remains at large.

Police are actively investigating the motive behind the shooting, and the incident adds to the concerns about safety in this neighborhood, which is reportedly a 'hotspot' for shootings, residents on 13th Street said.

The investigation remains active.
