Newark

An early morning high-speed vehicle pursuit of males wanted for a shooting in Newark's West Ward ended when the suspects bailed from the car near a cemetery in Union Wednesday morning.

According to a preliminary investigation, suspects occupying a vehicle pulled up in the area of South Orange Avenue and South 18th Street and began to fire shots at individuals standing in the neighborhood.

Fast responding police officers arrived and found evidence that a shooting occurred, but after they searched the area, no victims were found.

According to police, around 3:20 a.m., officers spotted the tan Infiniti occupied by several suspects and attempted to pull the driver over.

Police say the driver refused then sped northbound onto Stuyvesant Avenue, where three suspects bailed from the car near Hollywood Cemetary in the 1600 block.

Two suspects were taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit while police from Union and NJSP assisted in the search for one other suspect who remained at-large as of 4 a.m.

Police say EMS treated one of the males for shortness of breath, but there were no serious injuries reported.

Officers recovered at least two guns from the vehicle.
