Newark Police Pursuit End in Fiery East Orange Crash

Weapons were found in a minivan that engaged Newark Police in a pursuit that ultimately resulted in a crash in East Orange while you slept through the night.

Reports of suspicious activities had police attempt to pull over a vehicle at an unspecified location in the city of Newark before 1 a.m. when the driver of the vehicle ignored officer's lights and siren and sped away from the scene.

Police began to safely follow the car whose defiant driver recklessly raced towards the East Orange border ending in a crashing halt in the area of Central Avenue and South 17th Street (near Speedway Gas Station).

With the minivan ignited in flames, the driver of the minivan managed to bail from the vehicle, leading police on a foot pursuit.

According to preliminary reports, officers chased the suspect through the yards of several residences, but there were no immediate reports that officers took the suspect into custody.

The Essex County Sherrif's Office K-9 unit and East Orange Police were called to the scene for assistance. Police found a gun and other items in the vehicle.

There were no serious injuries reported.
