Newark Police Officer Injured During Arrest Following Moped Stop

A Newark police officer was injured after attempting to stop two men riding a moped. 

According to preliminary information, officers were patrolling the area of 7th Avenue when they attempted to stop a moped carrying two unidentified males, both of whom were reportedly wearing ski masks.

 

The suspects fled, leading officers on a brief foot pursuit. 

 

During the chase, one of the suspects allegedly tackled an officer, causing both individuals to fall to the ground.

 

The officer struck his head on a stone during the fall and briefly lost consciousness. 

 

Additional officers quickly responded to the scene and took both suspects into custody without further incident.

 

The injured officer was treated following the incident.
