A suspicious device that was left in the city's downtown Saturday night had police on the scene investigating.
Police were called to the vicinity of Washington Street and Raymond Boulevard to investigate reports of a suspicious package that was reportedly left at that location just before midnight.
According to preliminary reports, Newark's Emergency Services Unit arrived at the scene and found a pipe exposed to wires inside a garbage can at that location.
Authorities immediately deemed the device not a threat according to reports.
