Newark Police Investigates Several Armed Robberies in the Ironbound Section

Newark

A set of early morning armed robberies that occurred in the city's Ironbound section has Newark Police on the search for suspects.

Police officials from the 3rd Precinct flooded the vicinity of Independence Park with police officers after reports of an armed robbery occurred near Van Buren Street shortly before 3:30 a.m.

According to preliminary reports, the victim told police that while near the park, 4-5 black and Hispanic males approached, armed with what appeared to be a gun, and demanded personal possessions. Police say the victim complied with the suspects and gave up a cell phone and other items.

The suspects ran from the scene, but police believe that the suspects are wanted for an additional robbery that occurred on Napoleon Street as well.

Several of the suspect fitting the description goes back to the Pennington Court Housing Project where authorities believe the suspects possibly fled after the incident.

There were no physical injuries reported.
