Newark Police Investigate Shots Fired Near Central Ward Church

The Newark Police Department is seeking a suspect in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday night in the Central Ward.

AdOfficers responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of 10th Street and 18th Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered shell casings in the vicinity of the First Corinthian Baptist Church.

A thorough search of the neighborhood surrounding the church revealed no gunshot victims.

According to preliminary reports, a suspect is believed to have exited a gray van and discharged several rounds in the direction of unknown targets before hastily leaving the scene in the van.

The vehicle was last observed traveling westbound on 18th Avenue.

The suspect, as well as the motive for the shooting, remains unidentified at this time. The incident is currently under investigation by the Newark Police Department.

Authorities urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
