Police in Newark are investigating the overnight armed robberies of several gas stations around the city. Police first responded to reports of an armed robbery at a gas station located in the 300 block of Washington St., where a suspect occupying a black BMW robbed the establishment at gunpoint. The suspect was only described as a black male. A short time later, on McCarter Highway and 3rd Ave., a suspect fitting the same description as the Washington Street robbery robbed the gas station at this location. An attendant was reportedly assaulted by the suspect and treated by EMS.
Shortly after midnight, police responded to a gas station robbery located on Sandford Ave. and Mt. Vernon where two men occupying an older-model silver car robbed the attendants at gunpoint. There were no injuries during this incident.
