"I woke up to the sound of the helicopter right up over my house. I mean I could reach out and actually touch the helicopter (smh) . We met eye-to-eye contact with the police officers sitting in it, scared me so bad. My God" (MBN FAN)
An early morning pursuit that began in Newark turned into a bailout on an East Orange Street had police chase down and capture three suspects that committed an robbery/theft in the 600 block of South 19th Street.
Police, already conducting and early morning canvas in the area, noticed a silver colored vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed down Grove Street shortly before 6 a.m.
Units began to follow the vehicle down Grove Street when three suspects exited the vehicle and began to run on Park Ave. in East Orange.
Newark Police "ground" units swarmed to the area where they immediately captured two of the suspects while NPD1 circled the area from above tracking the third suspect.
Accurate communication from NPD1 led NPD "ground" units to a parking lot near Oraton Parkway where the suspect (who noticed the helicopter above) began to hide behind cars and buildings.
Several police units blanketed the area at the command of NPD1's description of the suspect, making the arrest a short time later.
The suspects were responsible for approaching a male victim and snatching his car keys away from him shortly before the pursuit.
No injuries reported.
