Newark Police Chase Down Suspects that Robbed Somerset Man in the City's West Ward; Vehicle Carjacked in East Orange

Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose is reporting two suspects were arrested for robbing a 43-year-old Somerset man yesterday evening in a continuing investigation.

According to authorities, a group of men robbed the victim after he exited his car on North Munn Avenue shortly after 4p.m. yesterday.

After the robbery, they fled in a gray Hyundai which was reported carjacked from East Orange authorities said.

Officers from the 1st and 4th Precinct quickly located the Hyundai near Georgia King Village and one of the suspects, 19-year-old Trevon McCoy who was walking inside of the complex with two other males.

Officers found items taken during the robbery on McCoy and evidence believed to have been taken during other robberies. Kenyon Esannason, 19, who was with Martin was arrested for outstanding Newark and Fairfield warrants.

The third man was interviewed without being arrested authorities said.

A second suspect, a 17-year-old male from East Orange, was carrying a loaded gun when he was arrested while trying to sell the victim’s phone in a store located on East Market Street.

The gun was stolen in Richland County.

McCoy and the juvenile are charged with robbery, conspiracy, receiving Stolen Property, Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes police said.

Director Ambrose, commended the efforts of all of the officers who assisted with the arrest of these two suspects. “This is an ongoing investigation with the likelihood they will be implicated in other robberies. I am confident that the robbery squad detectives will identify their accomplices and have them off our streets and behind bars shortly”, Ambrose said.

These are mere allegations lodged against Esannason. He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
