Newark Police Arrest Three Suspects Wanted for Multiple Armed Carjackings in Elizabeth

Newark

A foot pursuit for suspects wanted for armed carjackings in Elizabeth had police in Newark arrest three assailants in the city's South Ward this afternoon.

According to preliminary reports, Elizabeth Police were investigating at least three armed carjackings in the last two days in which two of the incidents occurred Tuesday night.

Police say at approximately 9:10 p.m., three suspects armed with a gun ambushed the victim in the 400 block of Pennington and took a white Toyota Rav 4.

A short time later, Elizabeth Police received reports of a carjacking in progress in the 700 block of Broad Street.

In this incident, police say armed men pointed guns at the victim and took a blue Lexus. Officers were able to catch up with the suspects who led them on a chase and crash on Port Avenue.

At approximately 11 a.m., Newark Police officers, on routine patrol near the old Pathmark Shopping Center on Lyon Avenue at the Irvington Township border, watched the suspect for a short amount of time in the Toyota Rav 4.

The suspects left the carjacked vehicle and walked inside the sneaker store.

After scanning the vehicle's NYC license plate, officers immediately learned that the car was carjacked in Elizabeth.

Police entered the store and took at least one of the males (juvenile,16) into custody then detained the others without further incident.

The vehicle was handed over to Elizabeth Police for further processing. Police have not confirmed if the suspects committed another armed carjacking on Pennington Street around 9 p.m. Monday.

No injuries were reported.
