Newark Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Possessing Drugs, Gun in Newark

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Terrance J. Powell, 29, of Newark for possession of a handgun and CDS in an incident that occurred on Tuesday, July 17th, 2018.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, at approximately 5:10 p.m., police responded to the 100-block of Prince Street on complaints of drug activity occurring inside a building.

Director Ambrose said officers observed a man in the lobby with what appeared to be a handgun in his sweatpants. After confirming that the suspect, Terrance J. Powell, was in possession of a loaded .22 caliber handgun police took him into custody without further incident.

Police say they found Powell in possession of 37 vials of CDS cocaine, 75 glassine envelopes of CDS heroin, a plastic tube of CDS marijuana and 12 rubber bands used to package bundles of CDS heroin.

Police charged Powell with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, two counts each of Possession of CDS and Distribution of CDS, Marijuana Possession and Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession.

Police say Powell is also charged with Receiving Stolen Property as the handgun in his possession was reported stolen out of North Carolina.
