Newark Police Arrest Man for Alleged Drug Possession While Wearing Ankle Monitoring Bracelet

Authorities in Newark are reporting the arrests of Mr. Cedric Lewis, 27, of Newark, for possession of CDS and contempt.

According to a statement released by authorities, acting on citizen complaints of drug activity in the area, at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers assigned to the Neighborhood Focus Initiative were in the 100 block of Ridgewood Avenue when they observed a motor vehicle violation.

Police say upon further investigation, they found Lewis in possession of over 38 glassine envelopes of CDS heroin.

Officers arrested Lewis then him charged with possession of CDS and contempt as he was on a monitoring device, an ankle bracelet, stemming from prior criminal activity and arrest.

Police say they confiscated $780.00 of suspected narcotics proceeds from Lewis.

“I commend the officers for the excellent work they do every day. Their efforts certainly improve the quality of life for all the citizens and residents in Newark. Lewis is no stranger to law enforcement. The state’s monitoring program has to be reviewed and made more stringent to discourage repeat offenders from criminal activity,” said Lt. Glover.
