Newark Police Arrest Man After Finding him Asleep in Carjacked Uber Vehicle

A man found asleep in a vehicle that was reportedly carjacked on Christmas Day in Newark had cops take the man in custody.

Authorities said **Bishaun Y. Williams, 19, of Newark,** was taken into custody after he was found sleeping inside an Uber vehicle that had been carjacked earlier in the evening.

According to authorities, at approximately 6:15 p.m., officers responded to Badger Avenue and West Runyon Street on a call of a carjacking.

A 47-year old male Uber driver was scheduled to pick up a female passenger, but two males were waiting when he arrived police said.

After confirming the account information, the driver accepted the passengers, who robbed him at gunpoint, taking his vehicle, a gray 2005 Subaru Impreza, along with his cash, cell phone, and wallet.

A concerned citizen reported someone attempting to steal a gray Subaru from the area of Jelliff and Avon avenues at approximately 12:25 a.m. today.

Officers found Bishaun Y. Williams sleeping inside the carjacked vehicle and placed him under arrest charging him with Receiving Stolen Property.

This charge is merely an accusation.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
