Newark Police Arrest Carjacking Suspect

Police officials in Newark announced the arrest of Mr. Sandro L. Martinez, 29, of Newark, for a carjacking incident on July 16. 

According to authorities, Newark Police responded to a call about a carjacking in progress at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the 80 block of Cutler Street.

Police said the victim while driving on Cutler Street, came to a stop after he attempted to drive between two double-parked cars.

When his car hit one of the vehicles,  three males approached his car and began yelling at him.

During the incident, captured on surveillance video, police said one of the males got into the victim’s car and started punching him in the face.

Two males then removed the victim from his car and drove away southbound on Cutler Street.

Martinez, identified as one of the suspects in the video, was also charged with aggravated assault, theft and conspiracy.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
