Newark Police Arrest Armed Man in Newark's Ironbound Section

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Kalil Herring, 22, of Neptune, for robbery and weapon possession in an incident that occurred on Thursday.

According to police, at approximately 2:45 p.m., police responded to a store located at 33 South Street on a robbery call. A black male walked into the store and demanded money at gunpoint before fleeing.

Witnesses reported seeing a man fitting the description of the armed suspect in the area of New Jersey Railroad Avenue and Ferry Street.

Officers observed the suspect running with a handgun in the 100-block of Ferry Street.

Authorities said, upon becoming aware of police presence, the man dropped the gun before police made the arrest.

Officers recovered the 9MM handgun at that location.

Police charged Kalil Herring with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
