Police Announce Arrests of Suspects Wanted for Felony Crimes in Newark

Police officials in Newark said the Division’s Patrol Officers/Shooting Response Team’s investigative efforts led to numerous arrests, warrants issued for suspects involved in shooting incidents, and closure of active investigations.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, from Monday, July 6 through Tuesday, August 11, patrol officers and members of the Shooting Response Team were able to uncover evidence that led to arrests, warrants issued, and closure of investigations for the following incidents:

**July 6, 2020,** – 167 Dickerson Street, **Mr. Eduardo Rodriguez** was identified as a co-conspirator and was arrested for Aggravated Assault and Conspiracy;

**July 27, 2020,** – 225 Washington Street, **Mr. Thomas Hopkins** was arrested for discharging a firearm into the air during a dispute. A search warrant led to the recovery of a 9mm handgun;

**July 27, 2020,** – 205 Springfield Avenue, **Mr. Dale Holly and Ms. Chelayyah Hall** were arrested for a shooting and a 9mm handgun was recovered. A follow-up investigation led to the identification and arrest of a 3rd suspect, **Mr. Almuta Thomas**, who is in custody for Aggravated Assault and firearm offenses;

**July 27, 2020,** – 105 Riverside Court, **Mr. Tashin Smith** was identified in a shooting incident and was arrested for Aggravated Assault and firearm offenses;

**July 29, 2020,** – 199 16th Avenue, **Mr. Dahmar Robinson** was involved in a shooting incident and was arrested for Aggravated Assault, firearm and narcotic offenses;

**July 29, 2020,** – 189 Pomona Avenue, **a juvenile** was identified in a shooting incident as one of several suspects shooting at others and was taken into custody for Attempted Murder and firearm offenses. A search warrant related to this matter lead to the recovery of a 7.62 caliber assault rifle along with 65 rounds of ammunition;

**August 1, 2020,** – 151 Grumman Avenue, an investigation led to the identification of **3 juveniles** and all were taken into custody for firearm and narcotic offenses. A search warrant resulted in the recovery of two .40 caliber handguns and c.d.s. Cocaine;

**August 2, 2020,** - 234 6th Avenue, **Mr. Jermell Johnson** was identified in a shooting incident and an arrest warrant was issued for Aggravated Assault and other offenses. Police are seeking the public’s help with locating **Mr. Johnson**; He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law upon his capture of surrender to authorities.

**August 4, 2020,** – 98 Willoughby Street, **Mr. Daryl Jefferson** was identified in a shooting incident and has been arrested. A search warrant of a dwelling related to this incident resulted in the recovery of a loaded 7.62 caliber assault firearm;

**August 5, 2020,** – 506 South Orange Avenue, **Mr. Joseph Jones and Mr. Quasheam Clyburn** were involved in a shooting incident and were arrested on the scene. Two 9 mm handguns were recovered and a 3rd suspect, Ali Smith, was later identified through investigative measures. An arrest warrant was issued for Ali Smith. Police are seeking the public’s help with locating Mr. Smith;

**August 5, 2020,** – 220 Irvine Turner Boulevard, **a juvenile** was involved in shooting incident and was identified during the investigative process and taken into custody;

**August 7, 2020,** – 429 Springfield Avenue, **Mr. Roger Gasca** arrested for discharging a firearm within City limits;

**August 9, 2020,** – 17-19 Seabury Street, **Mr. Ivan Figueroa** was arrested for Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Criminal Mischief after discharging a firearm;

August 11, 2020 – 291 W. Runyon Street, **Mr. Dwight Peebles** was involved in a shooting incident and was arrested for two counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose;

Director Ambrose said the following in a statement:

“The hard work and dedication of our patrol officers in combination with the investigative efforts of the Shooting Response Team brought about the identification and arrest of suspects for these violent incidents. I commend the ongoing efforts of the members of the Newark Police Division”.
