Newark Police Announce the Death of Veteran Officer

Police offcials in Newark regretfully reports the passing of 30-year veteran Newark Police Division Officer Jerome Ramsey, 55, of Newark.

Officials said Officer Ramsey suffered a medical emergency at his residence yesterday and suddenly lost his life as a result.

Officer Ramsey was most recently assigned to the Major Crimes Division’s Shooting Intelligence Unit and was awarded the prestigious Chief’s Award on May 25, 2017 for outstanding police work.

“The Newark Police Division deeply mourns the loss of one of its finest officers,” Director Ambrose said. “Sgt. Ramsey embodied the characteristics we look for in every Officer--honesty, bravery and compassion.

For thirty years, he served the City of Newark with integrity and with the utmost respect for our residents and visitors.”
