Newark, North Jersey Region Faces Another Sweltering Day Before Heatwave Breaks

Newark and all of North Jersey are enduring one more day of oppressive heat and humidity before relief arrives.As of 4:30 a.m., it was already a steamy 84 degrees on Lyons Avenue and Bergen Street in Newark’s South Ward, with thick humidity blanketing the area. 

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning and an Air Quality Alert as temperatures are expected to soar yet again during the third day of this heatwave.

According to forecasters, today will be sunny with a high near 97 degrees and heat index values making it feel closer to 103. There is also a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

Tonight, conditions will remain warm with partly cloudy skies and a low near 76, with a slight chance of storms between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Relief is expected tomorrow, bringing a much-needed break from the oppressive heat.
