Newark Men Lead Police Pursuit into Hillside; Suspects in Custody

According to police, at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday the New Jersey State Police initiated a pursuit in Newark of a red Ford Mustang bearing a temp tag.

The Mustang, occupied by Newark residents, Dolphuner Tullies, 25 and Hammid Gumbs, 36, who was recently released from prison after serving 44 months.

According to police, the suspects eluded the NJSP through various streets of Newark. Police terminated the pursuit when the suspects began to drive the wrong way on a highway.

However, the NJSP helicopter continued to follow the vehicle into Hillside. The Hillside Police Department was contacted by the NJSP and advised that the suspect vehicle was traveling westbound on Rt. 22 West.

The vehicle pulled off the roadway into the Honda dealership where the suspects exited the vehicle and began to flee the scene.

Hillside Police Officers ultimately apprehended the suspects without further incident and turned them over to the New Jersey State Police for processing.

The suspects have been charged with 3rd degree eluding and additional charges are possible pending further investigation.
